Abstract

When editing technical and scientific documents, a stylesheet is an essential tool for maintaining consistency, both internally within the document and with the publisher’s house style. Paul Beverley has provided some free computer tools, in the form of Word macros, that will analyse a document and highlight potential inconsistencies. This allows the stylesheet to be populated early in the editing process, thereby saving time and allowing the editor to spot inconsistencies that might otherwise have been missed. The tools cover inconsistencies with hyphenation, spelling (including proper nouns) and accents, and certain aspects of punctuation and capitalisation.
